i added the {ticker: display} to the index.htm file of my template. but it shows

1. / 2. / ... 
 m[0] ticker - m[1] display -
where i put the ticker display thing

Have you uploaded the files for the ticker ?
Normally if you have uploaded all files for the ticker and installed the sql data, it should work

Maybe delete your cache.

yeah i uploaded all of the files. i am also using an alternate theme.
i uploaded the ticker folder to my theme directory do i have to update the mod for that

It should work if your themes is choosen in your adminstration area.
The message you get is shown if the files are missing,
have you introduced the sql data to your database?
