It's not a usual Tutorial where you learn how to design/create something, here you'll learn how you should do an image or design. (For all those who can't speak englisch, or don't understand what I'm saying, there will be a translation soon) OK, let's start with R for Repetition Always try to repeat some aspect of the design throughout the entire piece/design/image Repeat important font styles, thick lines, certain bullet, colors, elements, shapes ... Repeating is a visual trick to control a reader's eye Organize it into visual units A for Alignment Alignment helps to create Unity (more about unity later) Do not combine right and left alignment! Centered alignment creates a more formal look. If available align elements/images along hard vertical edges. Find strong Alignment and stick to it. If you have 2 images, align them with a text edge. Every item should have a visual connection with something else on the page. P for Proximity Group related items together, so they are seen as one cohesive rather than a bunch of unrelated elements. By grouping several elements in close proximity to each other they become one visual unit. Try to avoid too many separate elements on a page. Violating the principle of Proximity can be a disaster. Make sure you have sufficient Proximity. T for Typographie Using varying Font Styles, Colors and sizes = interesting design. But limit number of different types, keep repetition and unity in mind!!! Rule of thirds When placing images, especially in photographs, break image into thirds vertically and horizontally. Place focal point of the image along one of the imaginary lines. Makes design/image more interesting to look at B for Background If a lot of text, use lighter background, but white is often too harsh Dark backgrounds are great for minimal text, lots of images or graphics C for Contrast Adds visual interest to a page. Helps organize information Use it to help create a focal point for a page. Add it with typeface, also colors, rules, textures, shapes The principle of contrast states that if two items are not exactly the same, then make them different! Ok, we're halfway done! Tired? Go outside and get some fresh air B2 for Balance The act of comparing or estimating two things, one against the other, and the contrast between: - Empty space and filled space - Text and images - Color and no colors and different colors Balance in Composition: - Symmetrical - Asymmetrical - Radial Symmetry Symmetrical or Formal Balance - Horizontal - Vertical - Diagonal U for Unity Unity is the correct balance of composition or color that produces a harmonious effect. Emphasis Used to express with particular stress force L for Lines Straight or curved Shows motion Color and Contrast Using color can enhance or detract from a composition Color wheels help determine which colors are in greatest contrast Color Wheel Analogous colors: Colors that are adjacent/next to on the color wheel Complementary colors: Colors opposite to each other on the color wheel Color in Design Use color to label or show hierarchy (level on important) Use color to represent or imitate reality Use color to unify, separate, and emphasize Use color to decorate Use color consistently Ok, now you're done and you know the most important Design Principles.
